Morocco Cultural and Sahara Desert

Highlights: Rabat - Meknes - Fez - Todra Gorge - Atlas Mountains - Marrakech This fantastic 10 days cultural trip starts and finishes in Casablanca, and visits Morocco’s Imperial cities of Rabat, Meknes, Fez and Marrakech. It also includes a night camping in Nomad tents on the edge of the Sahara desert and a walk through the stunning Todra Gorge. After we drive over the High Atlas mountains we arrive back in Marrakech to sample the best the city has to offer. We stay in nice Riads or hotels and travel in A/C minibus with local moroccan tour leader and local driver. Itinerary: Day 1– Flight From London To Casablanca Day 2– Arrival Casablanca
Meet and transfer to your hotel, overnight Day 3 – Casablanca - Rabat
After breakfast we visit the impressive Hassan II Mosque, the largest Mosque in Morocco. We then continue along the beautiful Atlantic coastline to Rabat where we visit the old fortress of Kasbah des Oudaias. While in Rabat we also visit the cities most famous landmark Le Tour Hassan and enter the Mausoleum of Mohammed V. This evening you can have free time or join us for a walk around the Medina. Day 4 – Rabat To Volubilis & Meknes To Fez
First we head to the largest and best preserved Roman ruins in Morocco at Volubilis. One of the Roman Empires furthest outposts, the ruins date from the 2nd century. We then visit the imperial city of Meknes and spend the afternoon wondering around its winding streets and beautiful architecture. This evening we drive to Fez in time for dinner. Day 5 - Fez
Today we take a full day tour of the UNESO World Heritage city of Fez. We see the famous tanneries and Andalusian and El Quaraoiyin Mosques. We visit Najjarine Square where you can sit and watch the world go by in a café, or visit the Souks and buy some souvenirs. In the afternoon we visit New Fez (Al Jdid) which is considered the most colourful and always bustles with life. Day 6 - Fez To Merzouga (sahara Desert)
Today we cross the Middle Atlas mountain’s and head for the Sahara Desert for what many consider is the highlight of the trip, a night camping in Nomadic tents on the edge of the sand dunes. You can take a camel ride or just sit back and enjoy the traditional food and dancing of the Berber and Nomad people. Don’t forget to look up, on a clear night the display of stars is unforgettable. Day 7 - Merzouga To Todra Gorge
We say goodbye to our Berber and Nomad hosts. The Sahara sand to drive to Todra Gorge on the east side of the High Atlas Mountains. This canyon is spectacular, and we walk alongside a tiny glacier stream which is dwarfed by the smooth 160 meter high rocks each side. We stay overnight in a nearby hotel surrounded by this rugged landscape. Day 8 – Todra Gorge To Marrakech
We stop at Ait Benhaddou which is a stunning “fortified city” along the former caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech. The beautiful palm trees present some fantastic photo opportunities as well as much needed shade. We also visit Ouarzazate before taking a picturesque drive over the Atlas mountains 2260m Tizi-n-Tichka pass before arriving back at Marrakech in time for dinner. Day 9 - Marrakech
This morning we take a traditional afternoon horse and carriage half day tour of Marrakesh, including the Menara garden, the Saadian tombs, the Bahia Palace, the Koutoubia Mosque and the Dar Si Said Museum. The half day tour finishes back at Djemaa el-Fna square where we have a group lunch and you have the afternoon free to buy any last minute souvenirs. This evening we have a last night out together before saying goodbye tomorrow. Day 10 – Marrakech - Casablanca
After breakfast the tour terminates.However if you have some extra time in Morocco, why not climb Mt Toubkal the highest peak in North Africa
